TCMA BOOK REVIEW

Please join this lively group to discuss current and classic literature about once a month. This long standing committee since 1989! We meet on the 4th Wednesday of each month and occasionally  in the evenings with spouses invited and the book selection taken into consideration.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

Some history of the group via Jan Wilson: The TCMA Book Review  began around 1989 when Pat Koen was president and Jan Wilson was assigned as the “fun and games” committee chair. A small group first met at Toni Burns’ house to talk through ideas—Toni, Deborah Jones, Janie Julian, Jan Wilson--plus others. There was a notorious book group in Austin (not affiliated with the Alliance) which had extremely strict guidelines. A member managed to confiscate one of their rule books. We quickly decided that was not our style. Deborah, Janie, and Toni were definitely the most up-to-date readers. Janie Julian's favorite book was Cold Sassy Tree. Toni Burns was our Classic Book aficionado--but so was Deborah and Janie for that matter. Toni was interested in the background of the authors. For the first few meetings, we were exploring which route to go in the group. Sometimes we had speakers. We kept thinking we needed some snazzy name, but TCMA Book Review just stuck. Thirty-seven years later, it’s still going—which is pretty remarkable.
